Brief description of the research
Starting from the fact that derivatives obtained from alizarin, as well as vanillin-based compounds, exhibit a wide range of biological activities, it was assumed that molecules that contain both fragments in their structure could potentially show enhanced bioactivity.
For this reason, a series of carbohydrazides was synthesized starting from O-alkylated vanillin derivatives. In the next step, the synthesized compounds were reacted with an alizarin derivative, resulting in the formation of diacyl hydrazine.
The alizarin derivative was obtained by acylation of the starting alizarin with ethyl bromoacetate and subsequent hydrolysis of the formed ester to the corresponding acid.
The synthesized compounds were structurally characterized by IR and NMR analyses, along with elemental analysis. The spectrum of their biological activities (antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitumor) was examined.
