(Management Committee – MC).
CA25125 – From Organic Waste to Value-Creating Products (WastedValue).
CA25120 – Advancing DNA Barcoding in Europe for Efficient, Sustainable and Inclusive Biodiversity Monitoring (DNABARDIV).
Participation in the Kick-off Meetings of Two COST Actions in Brussels
In September 2026, Dr. Jovana Delić and Dr. Jovana Sekulić participated in the kick-off meetings of two international COST Actions held in Brussels, in their capacity as members of the respective Management Committees (MCs).
On 8 September 2026, Dr. Jovana Delić attended the meeting of COST Action CA25125 – From Organic Waste to Value-Creating Products (WastedValue). This COST Action focuses on developing sustainable solutions for the valorization of organic and biological waste through the extraction of valuable compounds and their application across various industrial sectors, including the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries, agriculture, and biomaterials production. The Action promotes the principles of the circular economy, aiming to recognize waste as a valuable resource for developing new products and generating additional economic value. By bringing experts together, facilitating knowledge exchange, providing training, and fostering international research collaboration, WastedValue aims to develop environmentally friendly, economically viable, and market-sustainable solutions tailored to local needs and industry requirements.
On 24 September 2026, Dr. Jovana Sekulić attended the meeting of COST Action CA25120 – Advancing DNA Barcoding in Europe for Efficient, Sustainable and Inclusive Biodiversity Monitoring (DNABARDIV). This COST Action aims to advance the application of DNA barcoding for species identification and biodiversity monitoring across Europe. Its objective is to connect researchers, scientific institutions, and other stakeholders from more than 40 countries to develop harmonized methodologies, improve reference genetic databases, and promote the wider application of molecular methods in ecosystem monitoring. Emphasis is placed on knowledge exchange, education, and strengthening research capacities, as well as on the application of traditional DNA barcoding and environmental DNA (eDNA) for detecting and monitoring threatened, invasive, and difficult-to-identify species. By developing an international scientific network and making research resources more accessible, the Action contributes to improving biodiversity conservation and supporting the objectives of the European Union Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
Participation in these COST Actions contributes to the development of international research networks and creates opportunities for future collaboration, researcher exchanges, and the implementation of joint scientific initiatives.
