The Institute of Information Technologies had the honor of hosting Professor Dr. Đorđe Jakovljević, Professor of Cardiovascular and Lifestyle Medicine, who is also the Head of the Clinical Sciences and Translational Medicine Research Area at the Health and Life Sciences Research Centre at Coventry University in the United Kingdom.
Before joining Coventry University in July 2020, between 2009 and 2020, Dr Jakovljević developed and successfully led a research program in the field of cardiovascular aging and heart failure under the academic mentorship of Professor Sir Doug Turnbull at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University.
He has contributed to the development and implementation of several national and international interdisciplinary projects, including those supported by the European Union, such as SILICOFCM, SGABU and STRATIFYHF. To date, he has published more than 110 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, mentored twelve PhD students to successful defense, and secured research grants worth more than £8.5 million.
The main focus of the current research program is to improve risk stratification and diagnostics of heart failure in primary and secondary healthcare. In a conversation with Director Dr. Igor Saveljić, there was talk of potential collaboration with Professor Đorđe Jakovljević's team on the development of a bioimpedance-based device that would contribute to improved risk assessment and early diagnosis of heart failure.
