Brief description of the research
Katarina Virijević's research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of biologically active derivatives of 2-thiohydantoin, as well as on the investigation of their various biological activities.
The experimental part includes the synthesis and analysis of several series of molecular hybrids of 2-thiohydantoin, including spectral and crystallographic data, as well as biological, theoretical and spectroscopic investigations.
The interaction of newly synthesized compounds with DNA, BSA and HSA proteins is also investigated. Binding to DNA is analyzed by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, based on which binding constants and mechanisms are determined.
