Brief description of the research

Emilija Milović is engaged in the synthesis, characterization and investigation of the biological activities of selected aza-heterocyclic compounds. The focus is on the synthesis of tetrahydropyrimidines, their effects on cancer cell lines in vitro, as well as the investigation of mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics and toxicity.

The research also includes examining the interactions of synthesized compounds with biomacromolecules such as DNA and serum albumin. In addition to anticancer activity, antimicrobial activity on various strains of bacteria and fungi is also analyzed.

In the synthesis process, special attention is paid to the application of the principles of green chemistry, sustainable methods and the elimination of the use of harmful solvents and catalysts. The synthesis of new polymers based on tetrahydropyrimidine and the testing of their characteristics and potential applications are currently underway.
